Warriors return good mix

Posted

Washington head girls basketball coach Rocky Clarke likes the mixture of talent on his ball club this season.

“We have a good mix of older kids and younger kids and that’s good,” he said. “Their attitudes are really good and that’s all you can ask for. We just need to get the older kids to mix with the younger ones.”

The Warriors return four seniors, Katie Adams, Kaytin McKay, Madisson Myers and Mattie Richardson.

Juniors Daisy Lampkin, Kyndall Wells and Skylar Wells round out the upperclassmen.

The sophomores are Alexis Gay, Bailey Hyde, Emjay Lucas and Brinley Thomas.

Clarke said he expects his freshmen to play solid minutes for him this season.

They are Ava Grimes, Olivia Palumbo, Rielyn Scheffe, Jaden Taylor and Andrey Thomas.

“We had a pretty good summer and we’ll be better than we were last year,” Clarke said. “Every day in practice I like it better and better.”

Washington was defeated in the Area tournament by Marlow last year to end their season.

The coach is excited about the combination of size and athleticism.

“We’ll have quick guards and good height,” he said. “Their attitudes are great. Any time you have good attitudes good things happen.”

Washington finished with a 17-11 record last year.
