The Washington slow-pitch softball team comfortably cruised out of Districts with wins over Marietta (18-0) and Dickson (12-0).

“We hit the ball really well, but more importantly we are playing some solid defense,” head coach Tylor Lampkin said. “Bats are always good but you have to play good defense this time of year.”

Washington did not commit an error in the District tournament.

Marietta

The Warriors stepped on the gas early and opened with an eight-run first inning. They then score three in the second and seven in the third.

The Warriors took advantage with the long ball and saw homers from Ava Salcedo, Raelee Adkins and Briley Beller.

Salcedo was 3-3 with four RBIs.

Beller was 2-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Adkins had six ribbies in her 2-3 day at the plate.

Dickson

The Warriors moved on to Dickson and again attacked early with three runs in the first, and another five in the second.

Julie Hoehner homered and went 2-3 with three RBIs.

Reese Schrader also had three RBIs on a 2-3 day.

Beller handled the pitching in both games and continues to do a great job for the Warriors, according to Lampkin.

“It just says a lot about her the way she throws strikes,” Lampkin said. “She does a really good job.”

Westmoore

Washington beat Westmoore 17-15 in a doozy on Monday.

“It was back and forth a bit,” Lampkin said. “It was a little bit of a struggle for pitching on both sides with the wind. But the girls were resilient in winning a ball game.”

Salcedo homered twice and had six RBIs.

Emersyn Massey and Schrader both hit one out of the park.

Regional tournament

Cache, Guthrie and Woodward come to Washington for the Regional tournament.

“They’re all good teams,” Lampkin said. “Woodward has a really good record (20-2) and they’re a really good up and coming team. They haven’t had slow-pitch there very many years.

“Cache (17-18) is one of the slow-pitch Blue Bloods in the state. They’re always going to be good.

“Guthrie is young and so athletic. They’re all good but we just need to take care of us and what we do first.”

Washington and Guthrie open the tournament at 12 p.m. today (Thursday) and the tournament will play out the rest of the day.

“I’m really proud of this team and I’ve enjoyed this spring with this bunch,” Lampkin said. “They’re funny and you never know what they’re going to do and they come out and compete hard every day.”

Washington is 22-4 this season.
