Posted

Funeral services for Virginia Ruth (Colwell) Huddleston, 83, of Lexington were held Monday, November 11, 2019 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mrs. Huddleston passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019.

Virginia was born September 25, 1936 in Washington, Okla., the youngest of nine children born to Robert Bell Colwell and Rose Mae (Fannion) Colwell. Virginia was raised in Purcell and attended Purcell Schools, graduating with the Class of 1955.

On May 6, 1956, she married her best friend and life partner, Don Clifford Huddleston. For more than 27 years, they owned and operated Don Huddleston Construction Company.

Virginia worked hard, and could handle whatever needed to be done, whether in the office or on a job site. She was a strong woman; simple and plain spoken and you never had to wonder what she was thinking. And though she never had any children of her own, she was a mother to many of her nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Huddleston; parents, Robert and Rose (Fannion) Colwell; sister, Julia Rawson and seven brothers, Huston, Eule, Monroe, Harlen, Robert, Jackie and D.C.

Virginia is survived by her sister-in-laws, Shirley Jones of Lexington and Charlotte Nelson and husband, John, of Chickasha; lots of nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
