Tough losses for Lex

Posted

The Lexington boys’ basketball team is off to a 1-2 start this season. The ‘Dawgs have played some close games.

Lexington lost to Washington, 49-42, last Friday night on the road. Although the ‘Dawgs never led in the game, they kept it close against a quality opponent as the Warriors are currently ranked No. 15 in Class 3A.

Washington has been to the State tournament nine times. Just last season, the Warriors lost to Millwood in the first round.

Colton Penner had 15 points down low to lead the Lexington scoring. Teagin Pruitt had eight points for the ‘Dawgs in the tough loss. Jaylen Cottrell had six points.

Lexington lost to the Pauls Valley Panthers, 60-46, on Dec. 3 at Pauls Valley. The Panthers came out of their cage with a roar, taking the first quarter by a commanding score of 28-13.

From there, Pauls Valley was able to hold the ‘Dawgs at bay. Penner again led the ‘Dawgs in the paint with 14 points. Pruitt provided 10 points while both Cottrell and Josiah Dawley each had six points.

Lexington won its season opener on Nov. 22 with a nice 64-43 victory over the Dickson Comets at home. Cottrell had a team-high 14 points for the ‘Dawgs while Pruitt had 12 points for Lexington.

Heath Winterton had seven points for Lexington while both Penner and Jeremiah Muniz contributed six points each in the season-opening victory.

Lexington hosted the Lindsay Leopards (1-1) on Tuesday night.
