The Washington boys golf team shot 660 at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Claremore to qualify for the State golf tournament at Buffalo Rock Golf Course in Cushing.
They were four strokes behind the Regional champions Perkins-Tryon.
“We had a chance to win it and I was really happy with them,” said golf coach TJ Scholz. “They prepared well for the tournament.”
Part of the preparation was playing in a tournament there on April 19. The team took their prep a step further by studying Google Earth maps of the course and looking over green slopes.
“Their goal this year was to make State and they did that,” Scholz said. “Seth (Madden) and Hayden (Keeler) were impressive. It was the first time they’ve been under pressure like that and playing 36 holes. They did really well and I was happy for them.”
The team next travels to Cushing for the State tournament May 10-11.
