McClain County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to 174th Street and Council Avenue in reference to a shooting September 30 just after 10:30 p.m.

Sheriff Department officials reported a female reported her ex-boyfriend had shot her father.

The suspect, Michael Blankenship, used the father’s pistol, which he obtained during an altercation with the father, deputies said.

“The father was reportedly attempting to keep the suspect from assaulting his daughter after Blankenship broke into her residence and threatened to kill her,” the sheriff’s department said.

The male victim was shot one time through the chest and arm. Authorities said Blankenship fled on foot.

Deputies arrived on scene and immediately provided life-saving care to the male victim, who was transported to a metro hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The female victim was also treated and released for minor injuries.

Initial search efforts using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and area searches were unsuccessful due to the thick tree canopy, deputies reported.

Later in the day, McClain County Sheriff’s Office received information that Blankenship was spotted by an off-duty firefighter in the area of 150th and SH 76.

Deputies responded and placed Blankenship into custody.  Blankenship was transported to the McClain County Jail, where he was booked awaiting formal charges.

McClain County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by the Dibble Police Department, Blanchard Police Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Purcell Police Department and the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.
