Register hires new intern

OU student will be with newspaper through the summer

The Purcell Register recently welcomed a new intern from the University of Oklahoma.

Zack Wright, a junior at OU studying print journalism, will work with the newspaper through the summer on various stories and projects.

Wright, who considers himself an avid football fan, hopes to pursue a career in sports journalism out of college. His dream job is to be a beat reporter for an NFL team, preferably his Philadelphia Eagles, “but I’m not going to be picky,” he joked.

While in his teenage years, Wright grew to love the game of football thanks to a couple of Sooner legends.

“I grew up watching the ‘Belldozer’, Baker, Kyler and Jalen,” Wright said. “Watching those guys go out and compete for a team that I was passionate about really pulled me closer to the game,” he added.

His mother, Jaime Wright, is an OU alumna, so after graduating from Bethany High School, the decision to attend the University of Oklahoma was a “no-brainer,” according to Wright.

Outside of the sports world, Wright enjoys watching a quality film or throwing on a classic record.

“I just saw the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and I really like that trilogy, but  Interstellar is still probably my favorite,” Wright said.

When he has the opportunity, Wright also enjoys fishing but expressed that he hadn’t had any luck finding good ponds or banks to fish around Norman.
