Posted

The Lady ‘Dawgs will be in Lindsay today (Thursday) for Regionals with the Lady Leopards, Little Axe and Newkirk.

Lexington plays Newkirk at 2 p.m. Only the winner of the Regional will advance.

“I’m anxious. When you get to the playoffs you have to take it up to a whole new level. It’s a whole new game.

“Lindsay will be a hostile environment and the girls will have to drown out the noise and stay focused,” said head coach Monty Ervin.

According to Ervin, Newkirk is an athletic group. They finished second in their district to Perry, a State tournament team last year.

“Newkirk will be a quality opponent.”

Norman North Festival

On Monday, Lexington was in Norman for the Norman North festival.

Their first game was a 5-2 loss to 4A Cache.

“Errors were the difference in that game. Cache is a great team, year in and year out. But, the errors got us,” Ervin said.

With the game knotted at 2-2 in the 5th inning, a Lexington fielding error scored the go ahead run for Cache. The Lady Bulldogs would score two more to win 5-2.

Despite the loss, Lexington outhit Cache 6-5. Cora Vasquez was 2-2 at the plate and had a homer in the third inning.

Vasquez was on the rubber for Lexington. She went four innings allowing two runs on three hits and fanning seven batters.

Their second game was a 8-2 win over 2A Crescent.

“Crescent is another team that’s Regional-bound. We swung it well and threw it well. And, we had no errors,” Ervin said.

In the bottom of the first, down 1-1, Vasquez doubled to score a run and get the offense going for Lexington.

The Lady ‘Dawgs had 11 hits in the win. Izzy Pack, KK Vazquez and Cora each had two hits. Kieley Givens, Mackenzie Manuel, Maison Sissney and Abby Sample had one apiece.

Lexington also had seven RBIs.

Pack was in the circle for Lexington. She went four innings and fanned five batters.

Freshman Hannah Garrett came in for an inning of relief.

Western Heights

Last week, in their final regular season game, Lexington picked up a 16-3 run-rule win against Western Heights.

Bats were hot for Lex as they scored nine in the bottom of the first.

They added two runs in each of the next two innings to run away with the win.

The Lady ‘Dawgs had 12 hits in the win. Sissney, Cora and KK each had two hits.

Going into Regionals Lexington has an 18-10 record.

“This is a special time. The girls have worked hard and going into the postseason should be celebrated. They need to know this is a special time.”
