The Purcell Dragons are in Blanchard today (Thursday) along with Plainview for Regional baseball action.
They play Plainview at 1 p.m. then Blanchard at 3:30 p.m. Plainview and Blanchard square off afterward.
Then the scenarios are in play – if all three teams have one loss, the two lower seeds will play at 4 p.m. on Friday with the winner playing the top seed. That winner advances to Area.
In scenario two, the one loss team will play the undefeated team at 4 p.m. on Friday. The if-necessary game will be at 7 p.m. and the winner will advance to Area.
On Monday, the Dragons run-ruled Riverside for Senior night.
“It was pretty cool to see all of our seniors get a hit on senior night,” head coach Cole Sharp said.
Boston Knowles’ final hit on Purcell’s field was a homerun. Parker Page had a double and Brayden Reinhold had a single.
Sophomore Preston Kane started on the mound and got the win, striking out six and walking two in five innings of work.
“I thought Preston did a good job of giving us an opportunity to win the game. He threw strikes and attacked the zone early and often,” Sharp said.
Bryson Perkins came on in relief for one inning.
According to Sharp, Riverside was on a 15-game win streak coming into Purcell and he was pleased how the Dragons took care of business.
“I like how we ended our regular season on a good note to carry that momentum into the playoffs,” Sharp said.
Last Friday Purcell lost a thriller to Washington, 4-3.
Senior Parker Page was called on to start and he did a great job attacking the zone and challenging the Warrior hitters, according to the coach.
Kash Knowles came on in relief. He needed just 17 pitches to get six outs.
Washington scored three in the second inning and Purcell answered with two in the bottom of the third and one in the bottom of the fourth.
“I was pleased with our effort being down three and battling back to tie it up,” Sharp said.
Washington scored one in the fifth to take the lead. Purcell had chances to tie it up or push across that winning run, but couldn’t get it done.
Boston Knowles led the Dragons with two hits in the loss.
