It’s Playoff time in Washington and Warrior softball skipper Tylor Lampkin said he can feel the excitement.
“Everybody is pretty juiced up and ready to get going,” he said.
Washington opened the Regional tournament with the winner of Hennessey and Morris.
The Regional tournament will conclude today (Thursday)with the winner advancing to the Super Regional tournament.
“We’re starting to hit our groove and play at a quick pace,” Lampkin said. “It’s time to get rolling.”
Westmoore
Washington got a tune-up game in with Westmoore last Tuesday and came away with a 4-0 win.
Payton Blackburn got the start in the circle and struck out five batters in seven innings. She allowed two hits and no walks.
Ava Salcedo got the scoring going in the first inning when she homered to center field.
She finished the day 1-1 at the plate with two walks.
Washington put up two more runs in the second inning.
Washington put one more run on the board in the sixth inning when Daphne Palumbo homered. Palumbo was 2-3 with a homer, a double and two RBIs. She also scored two runs.
Perkins-Tryon
The Warriors squeezed in another game Monday against Perkins-Tryon. They ran away with it 20-2.
Washington went with the staff approach in the circle.
Ally Dennis pitched the first two innings, followed by Blackburn with two innings and Ellie Musgrove in for the final inning.
They had a combined six strikeouts and two walks.
Offensively, the Warriors blew the game open early with a six-run first inning and a 12-run second.
Palumbo homered again and was 1-2 with two RBIs.
Ellie Wells, Julie Hoehner, Kinzlee Pogue, Presley Lucas and Raelee Adkins all had doubles.
Kelby Beller was 1-3 with a triple and four ribbies.
‘We’ve been hitting a lot lately in practice and you could tell in that game,” Lampkin said. “I was proud of their approach and trying to do damage whenever they got up to bat.”
Washington is 29-4 this season.
