Playground upgrade is in the works

Public hearing September 9

Posted

A public hearing on September 9 will highlight the proposed Rotary Playground Replacement Project.

The hearing at 6 p.m. will be in the small banquet room of the Purcell Multipurpose Building.

Hosting the hearing will be the city’s Parks & Recreation Department.

John Blue, department director, said the meeting will explain the application process for a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant.

If approved, the grant would reimburse the city half of the playground project’s cost.

“We will be displaying the chosen designs for the play structure, amenities and pavilion replacement, along with the timeline for completing the project,” he said.

Blue added public input is a huge factor in the application process.

“We are still requesting people submit letters of support for the project,” he said. “Drawings by kids showing how they would play on the playground would be a fantastic addition.”

Also, Blue said the city is accepting donations to help pay for custom grills and benches or other extra amenities.
