The OHP reported Rickey K. Wilkerson, 36 of Pauls Valley, died at the OU Medical Center Thursday afternoon from injuries sustained in this accident six miles south of Washington on state Highway 24 Thursday morning.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigated what turned out to be a fatality accident on state Highway 24 Thursday morning.
OHP Trooper Brian Ozment responded to the 10:15 a.m. accident along with Wadley’s EMS, Purcell Fire Department, McClain County Sheriff’s Department and the Payne Fire Department.
Ozment reported a westbound 2017 Kia Sportage driven by Rickey K. Wilkerson, 36, of Pauls Valley crested a hill on 74 and departed the roadway to the left between High Avenue and Eastern Avenue six miles south of Washington.
The vehicle struck a dirt embankment and then went airborne impacting a tree where the vehicle came to rest, the trooper said.
Wilkerson was transported to OU Medical Center by Air Evac where he was admitted in critical condition.
He died just after 4 p.m. in the hospital from head, trunk and internal injuries, Ozment reported.
The accident remains under investigation.
