National Police Week

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.

Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in numerous planned events which honor those that paid the ultimate sacrifice.

2022 National Police Week is May 15 through May 21. National Police Week offers honor, remembrance and peer support, while allowing law enforcement, survivors and citizens to pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. Locally, we honor Purcell Officer Wiley Florence who died in the line of duty June 21, 1932.

The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety will hold its memorial service on May 20 at the department headquarters, 3600 N. Martin Luther King, Oklahoma City, at 10 a.m. The public is welcome to attend.

The Purcell Police Department will be honoring our hardworking officers the week of May 16 through May 20 with several events.

Chief Bobby Elmore and Assistant Chief James Bolling currently supervise 15 police officers, three detectives and six civilian personnel within the department. These officers are dedicated to protecting and serving the community with excellence.

Please take the time to thank an officer and show your appreciation during National Police Week.
