Mrs. Mitchell passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020.

Naomi Bennett was born March 8, 1929 in Tribbey, Oklahoma, the youngest of 11 children born to Andrew and Maud Belle (Haney) Bennett. She was raised in Lexington and attended Lexington Schools. While in school, Naomi was a standout on the basketball court, and she graduated with the Bulldog Class of 1947.

On November 27, 1948, Naomi married her best friend and life partner, David Mitchell Jr., in Purcell. They first made their home in Lexington and later Oklahoma City, where together they raised three children; son, Teddy, and daughters, Deborah and Sheila LuAnn.

Naomi worked for Sears for more than 20 years, retiring as Division Manager. David and Naomi purchased a property at Lake Eufaula, and spent many years there following retirement. They moved back closer to home, settling near Slaughterville in 1994.

She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was spunky, and never failed to speak her mind. She was a gifted quilter and enjoyed sewing, and she shared her many talents with her family and friends. Naomi was a woman of great faith and a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Lexington. Naomi was a prayer warrior; she believed in the power of prayer and she lived by faith every day. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Mitchell Jr.; two grandchildren, Amber Mitchell and Ian Neal; her parents, Andrew and Maud Bennett and siblings, Amos Bennett, Benjamin Bennett, Doxie Cobb, Elizabeth Carr, Jim Bennett, Martha Ramsey, Everett Bennett and Meldie Stricker.

Naomi is survived by her son, Teddy Mitchell and wife, Laurel, of Midwest City; daughters, Deborah Neal and husband, Willie, of Norman and Sheila LuAnn Crabb and husband, Doug, of Norman; sisters-in-law, Allie Mitchell of Purcell, Hazel Ille and husband, Bernard, of Lexington     and Lillie Bruehl of Edmond; 11 grandchildren, Arin Mitchell, Staci Jarvis, Meredeth Garrett, Bethanie Mitchell, Justin Mitchell, Andrew Mitchell, Andrea Frymire, Ashleigh Pennington, Allison Smith, Candace Walkup and Jeremy Crabb; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
