Lexington splits Lindsay

Posted

The Lexington girls continued their stellar start after beating the Lindsay Leopards, 68-40, last Tuesday at home.

It was never really a contest. The Lady ‘Dawgs took control early and kept the pedal to the metal. Lexington led 23-9 after the first quarter to take a commanding early advantage.

At halftime, the score was 34-23 as Lindsay tried to ease back into the game.

However, the Lady ‘Dawgs came out of their locker room with a huge bite and outscored Lindsay, 30-4, in the third quarter to bring the score to 64-27.

Lexington pulled its foot off the pedal in the fourth period but still coasted to the win. Senior Lauren Beason had her best game so far this year, scoring 22 points for the Lady ‘Dawgs.

Emilee Jenks was strong from the edge, chipping in 17 points. Amanda Graddy was also a potent weapon from outside as she scored 10 points.

“We have been playing well, no doubt,” said Lexington head coach Derek Clark. “Before the season, we made one of our goals to go unbeaten by the time January rolls around.”

The Lady ‘Dawgs had the chance to do just that on Tuesday night. They hosted the Davis Wolves at 6:30 p.m. in their last game of 2019.

Boys

The Lexington boys just can’t seem to get a break these days.

The ‘Dawgs are now 1-3 on the year after losing to the Lindsay Leopards, 43-41, last Tuesday on a last-minute shot.

“Man, it’s been tough,” said head coach J.D. Beck. “We lost that game on a last second shot but we played well. I thought we could – and should – have won that one.

“We’ll go on to the next opponent and just move on and see how it goes.”

After the first quarter, Lexington led Lindsay, 10-7, thanks to a couple of key three-pointers from Jaylen Cottrell. At the half, the score was 18-11 in favor of the ‘Dawgs.

Things were looking good for Lexington at that point.

But, Lindsay fought its way back into the contest. After three quarters, the score was 30-25 in favor of the ‘Dawgs.

In the fourth quarter, Lindsay outscored Lexington 18-11, thanks to some fancy outside shooting. The Leopards made four three-pointers to help seal the win.

Cottrell led Lexington with 12 points on the night. Teagin Pruitt had 10 points.

Josiah Dawley had eight points for Lexington while big man Colton Penner chipped in seven points in the paint.

Lexington hoped to get back on the winning track on Tuesday. The ‘Dawgs hosted Davis (1-2) at 8 p.m.
