Last Tuesday, the Lexington Lady Bulldogs dropped a close game with Varnum, 51-48.
Scoring was tight the whole game and Varnum held a 16-14 lead at half time.
Lexington outscored Varnum 17-8 in the third quarter, chipping away at their lead. But, it wasn’t enough as the Lady ‘Dawgs lost by three.
Freshman Phyllis Webb led her team with 20 points while senior Addison Lippel joined her in double figures with 13. Ava Rowe added eight.
According to head coach Jacobi Couch, Varnum is a scrappy team that shoots well.
The Lady Bulldogs are off until January 6, when they host Asher.
“The break will give us a chance to reset and work on things. We’ll have to get tightened up and prepare for the second half push of the season,” Couch said.
Boys
The Bulldogs dropped a game with Varnum just before winter break, 58-44. Two guys finished the game in double figures – Elijah Pearman had 12 and Cash Dierking had 11.
Gavrie Williams added eight points.
Lexington held a 22-20 advantage at half time, but Varnum came out in the third and singed the nets for 22 points. Lexington had seven.
Varnum outscored Lex in the final stanza 16-15 to extend their lead and pick up the win.
The Bulldogs’ schedule will resume Monday, January 6 when they host Asher.
