Lex wrestling off to good start

Lexington High School wrestling is off to a good start for the 2019-2020 season.

Head coach Jared Garrett said the Bulldogs knocked off Millwood 52-18 and Pauls Valley 42-36, while losing to Comanche.

Lexington competed in the Blanchard tournament with Dalton Matthews bringing home fourth place at 170 pounds and Brady Rillema was fourth at 182 pounds.

“Both wrestlers are competing well so far this season,” Garrett said.

The Bulldogs’ next competition will be at Chickasha tonight (Thursday) and then to Weatherford Friday and Saturday for the Max Dippel Tournament.

This year is the first year the OSSAA is testing out an all girls division.

The junior high girls went to the Kingfisher tournament and brought home some hardware.

“It is exciting to be apart of a new sport for girls,” Garrett said. “Girls have been able to wrestle in the past in Oklahoma, but they had to compete against boys. It's great to see them have a chance to go out and compete.”

Placers at Kingfisher included Aubrey Ramos, Bailie Forbes, Izzy Pack, McKenzie Collins and Hope Grove.

Ramos, Forbes and Pack finished second while Collins and Grove turned in third place performances.

“Also this year we are doing something different,” the coach continued. “We had Pin for Autism singlets made and the wrestlers are going out and getting sponsors to donate for every pin each wrestler gets.

“Toward the end of the season on February 5 the wrestlers will collect. All the money will be donated to the JD McCarty Center.

If you have any questions or wanted to come by and do more about the Pin for Autism to help out the cause that would be great,” Garrett concluded.
