Izzy Pack named outstanding wrestler

Lexington’s Lady Bulldogs wrestling team finished runners-up at the Pauls Valley Tournament last weekend.

Izzy Pack and Cilee Turner lead the team with first place finishes, both pinning their way to the championship.

Elexa Collins finished off with a fall for third place to seal the deal for a team trophy.

Pack also brought home the outstanding wrestler award for the upper weights. Bailee Forbes placed fourth for the junior high Lady Bulldogs.

“All the girls wrestled well, it's nice to see them starting to hit that stride and getting into regionals mode,” head coach Jared Garrett said. “There are big possibilities for this group of girls.”

“Brady Rillema had a great tournament,” Garrett said of the boys’ side of the tournament.

Rillema finished second at 170 pounds.

“He ended up losing to a state placer from Bethel in the finals,” Garrett said.

“He has been working hard cutting weight to try to make it to 170 pounds. He finally got there and I think it might be the best weight class for making it to state,” the coach said.

In the junior high division, Zeke Hughes and Jayden McDaniels brought home fourth place finishes at their weights.

The high school team wrestles their district duals on Tuesday this week at Marlow.

They travel to Pauls Valley for a dual against the Panthers on Thursday.
