The Wayne Lady Bulldogs have been on a roll over the last week. They have added six wins and just two losses to their overall record of 17-9, garnering a number 18 ranking in Class 3A.

On Monday, Wayne was in Purcell for a three-way with the Dragons and Lady Broncos of Mustang.

Wayne bested Purcell 25-9, but fell to Mustang, 22-8.

“Mustang is really good. They hit the ball well,” head coach Charles Durrence said.

The coach said that the Lady Bulldogs’ bats were quiet at first, either hitting right at them or popping it up.

According to the coach, around the fourth inning, Wayne’s bats heated up, scoring six runs.

“If we had hit the ball like we’re capable of, that game would have been closer. We heated up, but ran out of outs,” Durrence said.

But, offensive output carried over to the 25-9 win over Purcell.

“Right now we’re hitting well and playing good defense.

“The girls are putting in the time and doing what they are asked to do. Slow pitch is a game of ups and downs, and right now we’re playing well,” Durrence said.

Last week, the Lady Bulldogs hosted Bowlegs and Elmore City and came away with two wins.

In a run-rule, 19-0, win over Bowlegs, Durrence’s Lady Bulldogs had 18 hits and 17 RBIs.

Kaylee Madden had two homeruns and Allie Walck went yard once.

Madden was also in the circle for Wayne. She pitched three innings and allowed just one hit and no runs.

In the 14-4 win over ECP, Wayne racked up 17 hits and 14 RBIs.

Kamryn Moss had a homerun in the win.

Shyleigh Mantooth pitched for Wayne. She allowed four runs on eight hits.

Last Friday, the Lady Bulldogs beat Wynnewood 8-1,  but lost to Holdenville 9-3.

They went 4-0 in the RWB Tournament, beating Stratford 18-8 in the championship game, to win the hardware.

“I know Wayne hadn’t won their conference tournament in a long time, so going undefeated was a confidence booster and the girls were very excited,” Durrence said.

“We plan to build on that success as the season continues.”

Stratford was on the board first with three runs crossing the plate.

But, Wayne answered with 10 runs in the bottom of the first.

Walck and Madden had homeruns, Mayce Trejo and Madden each had triples, Haiden Parker and Allison Ryan had singles and Walck rounded out that inning with a triple.

In total, Wayne had four homeruns in the win. Madden had two, Walck and Faith Brazell had one a piece.

Wayne will be in Vanoss today (Thursday) through Saturday for the Vanoss tournament. The Lady Bulldogs face Elmore City at 3:20 p.m. for their first game.

“There are lots of good teams in this tournament. We have a chance to do well,” Durrence said.

District pairings are scheduled to be released Friday.
