Lady Bulldogs hit the court

Posted

Josh Trent, in his sixth season with the Bulldogs and fourth at the helm of the Lady Bulldogs, is pleased with the experience he has returning for the 2019-2020 campaign.

Lost to graduation were Morgan Posey, Raegan Dill, Julie Hiser, Hannah Blackwood, Haylee Blackwood and Kynzie Johnson.

Even with one lone senior, Abigail Lee, the coach is excited about the experience his team has.

“We have a good group of girls back. All of them have good ability; there’s really not one standout star,” Trent said.

Juniors Allie Walck, AJ Gray and Coralee Castle were all helpers last season and will be leaned on again as the season gets underway.

Freshman Kaylee Madden is joining Trent’s squad and he’s eager to get her going.

“Kaylee Madden had good ball handling skills and makes good decisions. She’ll play mostly at the point guard position,” Trent said.

He also pointed out that his bevy of sophomores are all solid players that will help out a lot this season.

Last season the Lady Bulldogs were bounced from post-season play by Konawa in the Regional tournament. And they ended with a 6-19 record.

“We always have a tough schedule but I’m pleased with how the team has looked during preseason scrimmages,” Trent said.

Mainstay tournaments on the Wayne schedule have been replaced by the Geronimo and Alex tournaments.

“I think these new tournamnets will give us more opportunity to win games and give the girls more experience,” Trent said.

Wayne opens their season in Geronimo for tournament play on December 5.
