Posted

Charles Durrence’s Lady Bulldogs are ranked number 18 in Class 3A and were in Tushka Wednesday for the District tournament.

They faced Vanoss for their first game. The winner would then play Tushka.

“I feel like if we show up and play we give ourselves a chance to win a tough district. We have to show up and play,” Durrence said.

“This is one of the toughest Districts in the state for our class.”

Wayne added two more wins  with a 15-0 victory over Empire last Tuesday and a 21-4 win over Central on Monday.

Last Thursday’s games were cancelled due to rain.

Monday’s lopsided win over Central only went four innings.

Boys

The Wayne Bulldogs are on a bit of a roll in the home stretch of their schedule.

Shane Collins’ team added wins over Maud, 12-2, last Tuesday and Alex, 9-3, on Monday.

“We are hitting better, walking less and committing fewer errors. Those have been our achilles heel, so if we can continue doing those things, we can win,” Collins said.

Kaleb Madden and Brian Ibarra managed multiple hits in the win over Alex. Wayne had a total of nine hits in the win, and six RBIs.

Madden was on the bump for the Bulldogs. He had twelve strikeouts and allowed just three runs on six hits.

Last Tuesday, Wayne collected eight hits on the way to a 12-2 victory over Maud.

The Bulldogs took the lead right out of the gate, scoring six in the first and four in the second.

Maud scored their only two runs in the third, but Wayne had a handle on the game and cruised to the win.

The Bulldogs (12-16) were home against Walters for a double header on Tuesday then hosting Apache today (Thursday) for their final District contest.

“The Apache game will have a lot of meaning. If we can win that one, we can move up a spot in our standings. It’s definitely circled on the schedule,” Collins said.

The scheduled game with Stratford for April 27 was cancelled.
