Independence Day Celebration

Posted

First of all, Purcell’s Independence Day observance won’t be on July 4.

Rather all of the activities to celebrate the holiday will be on Friday, July 2.

John Blue, Purcell’s Parks & Recreation director, said Tuesday the observance is shaping up nicely, with games, attractions, inflatables and activities for all.

At least five food trucks are committed to feeding the public.

Activities at Purcell Lake will begin at 5 p.m. Music will be provided by a band sponsored by Belle Starr Saloon.

Blue is still organizing yard games and the like.

Those will be similar to the games played at the recent Walk the Trail event.

Food trucks and games will be situated near Chandler Pavilion.

Among new activities will be a car show at Weaver Pavilion adjacent to the RV park.

Preceding the car show will be vehicles on parade in Drag the Lake Road at 5 p.m.

Car show registration at Weaver Pavilion will open at 6 p.m. and judging is set for 7 p.m.

A list of car show classes is pending.

The fireworks show will commence with a bang at 9:45 p.m.

Co-sponsoring the afternoon and evening events will be the Heart of Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce.
