Highly anticipated demolition of old PMH getting closer

Posted

Interim Purcell City Manager Bobby Elmore told the city council Monday night at its regular monthly meeting an abatement of the asbestos at the old PMH has to be done before any demolition.

It is estimated it will take 3-4 weeks to get the asbestos removed.

In his report at the Community Room of the Purcell Police Service Building, Elmore said he was contacted by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and they plan on starting the contractor prep work at the site December 4.

In his report, Elmore touched on the police department, fire department and told the council the airport runway is 62 percent completed.

Work on the runway has been paused until spring. It’s open.

In his report, PWA Assistant Director Trey Phillips told the council the city has been down one water well.

Water department personnel are trying to get a grasp on the water main breaks as well as find out what is causing them.

The city fathers approved a 50 percent cost sharing with McClain County for construction of a bridge located at 240th northwest of Purcell on west Sooner Road.

The city’s cost is $42,568.05.

The council approved calling two printers, a Canon iIPF830 and an HP Design jet 500ps, surplus.

The council moved two items on the agenda to a special meeting. The date of that meeting is still to be determined.

The tabled items were a pay rate increase and action to approve Parks & Rec new by-laws. Those by-laws were previously approved by the Parks & Rec board November 5.

In the Purcell Public Works Authority portion, Jackie Wadley gave the Wadley’s EMS quarterly report.

Wadley told the board his company is partnering with Mid-America Technology Center to train EMTs and Advanced EMTs to help keep his staff at full capacity.
