The Wayne Lady Bulldogs were in Drumright Tuesday for District competition with the Quapaw Lady Wildcats and the Tornadoes.

Wayne played Quapaw in the first game and thanks to two home runs from Maddie Moreno and one from Audra Watts, cruised to an 8-0 win.

In game two, Drumright beat Quapaw to set up a Wayne vs. Drumright game three. Those results were too late for our press deadline.

Moreno was 4-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Alyssa Hobson had two ribbies while  Watts and Ava Stottlemyre had one each.

Stottlemyre had a complete game shutout, not allowing any runs on seven hits while fanning four batters.

Last Thursday and Friday Wayne was in the Fletcher tournament. They were 2-2 with losses to Binger-Oney (6-0) and Fort Cobb-Broxton (11-1). They had wins over Ryan (5-2) and Sterling (5-4).

The Lady Bulldogs collected 13 hits and had five RBIs on their way to a 5-2 win over Ryan in their first game of the Fletcher tournament.

Taelyn Ringwald, Stottlemyre, Hobson, Cylie Jones and Alana Digby each had two hits.

Stottlemyre was in the circle for all six innings. She surrendered six hits and two runs (zero earned) and fanned eight batters.

Baserunners were hard to come by in their loss to Binger-Oney. The Lady Bulldogs finished with four hits – one each from Addison Clagg, Ringwald, Moreno and Watts.

On Friday, Wayne picked up a 5-4 win over Sterling.

Despite being outhit 14-12, the Lady Bulldogs showed fight to pull out the win.

Sterling jumped out with one run in the top of the first.

Wayne answered on a Moreno two-run homer in the third to take the lead.

Sterling tied it up 2-2 with an RBI single in the fourth.

Thanks to a Moreno single in the fourth, Wayne retook the lead 3-2. They added two more runs in the fifth. And held off a Sterling comeback attempt in the seventh.

Moreno was the leader at the plate going 3-4 with three RBIs.

Lily Whitaker and Jones had two hits apiece.

In their final game of the tournament, Wayne dropped a lopsided loss to Fort Cobb-Broxton, 11-1.

Despite collecting 11 hits, Wayne couldn’t get more than one run across the plate.

Monday’s game with Riverside was canceled.
