Festival organizers get an A+

A tip of the hat to the scores of workers who put together a highly successful second annual Heart of Oklahoma Music Festival.

The headliner band “The Great Divide” pulled in a huge following to anchor the day.

Executive Director of the Heart of Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce, Elisabeth Baker, estimated around 5,500 people attended the event that started at 11 a.m. and concluded around 9 p.m.

City employees used clickers to give as accurate a count as possible.

Kudos to the festival’s Executive Director Serena Melton, Public Works Director Trey Phillips and to Baker.

That threesome spearheaded the festival with Melton in charge of getting the bands lined up.

Baker was in charge of acquiring the vendors.

Purcell’s Assistant Chief of Police, James Bolling, was in charge of security.

There were plenty of uniformed officers from Purcell, the sheriff’s department and Chickasaw Lighthorse Police intermingled among those attending the festival.

The entire event showcased Purcell to a lot of people.

Organizers and those who participated can all now sit back and bask in the glow of a job well done.

Sometimes you can just leave the job up to Mother Nature.

Late last week a squirrel was fatally struck by a vehicle on North 8th just a bit north of our house.

When I saw the aftermath, I made a mental note to call Animal Control to pick up the animal.

But, of course, a mental note to me is about as worthless as it can be.

If it’s not written down for me to look at later, it’s in one brain cell and out the other.

Again Sunday I noticed  the remains and again told myself to make sure and call Animal Control on Monday.

However, about an hour later I went outside only to notice several of our resident vultures hovering very low over the scene and a couple even perched on the street.

Soon enough, the carcass was completely removed and there was no need to call the authorities.
