Every Dawg has its day

It is shaping up to be a real dog fight on the Lexington High School gridiron Friday night.

But for fans of the hometown Bulldogs, the real drama may not be the game against the Stratford Bulldogs, but the events preceding the 7 p.m. kickoff.

A 36-member homecoming court will take the field at 6:30 p.m. for coronation of a queen and king.

A homecoming parade is also planned at 1:30 p.m.

Queen candidates are Lindsey Barber, Lauren Beason, Morgan Clark, Kaily Felipe, Kaylee Fink, Hunter Forbes, Amanda Graddy, Cierra Howse, Destiny Humbolt, Kenzie Lawson,Sihaya McAlpine, Lilli Perry, Hannah Robbins, Anna Sample, Regan Smith, Kylee Spencer and Jessica Turnpaugh.

In the running for the king’s crown are Coby Bear, Kaden Claunch, Nathan Clegg, Jaylen Cottrell, Cody Diaz, Connor Findley, Lane Jeffrey, Tanner Jones, Kolby King, Auston McWaters, Trevor Meadows, Conrad Moffat, Colton Penner, Zachary Simcsuk, Daniel Spencer,  Colton Turner and Kyston Wheat.

All are seniors.

Flower girl and crown bearer are kindergartners Aspen Brakefield and Cody Beason, respectively.

Barber represents slow-pitch softball. She also plays fast-pitch softball and is on Student Council. She is the daughter of Mike and Kristin Barber.

Lauren Beason represents track.  She is on the superintendent’s honor roll and is a member of National Honor Society and Oklahoma Honor Society. She is on Student Council. In addition to track, she participates in fast- and slow-pitch softball and basketball. She was state runner-up in the long jump this year and is on the Big 8 All-Conference basketball team. She is the daughter of Ronnie and Carla Beason.

Clark represents cross-country. In addition, she plays softball and participates in track. She is a member of NHS. She is the daughter of Tim and Lori Clark.

Felipe represents winter cheer. She is the daughter of Irene Ramirez and Miguel Felipe.

Fink represents Student Council. She plays fast- and slow-pitch softball. She is the daughter of Richey and Terri Fink. 

Forbes represents FFA. 

Graddy represents basketball. She also plays fast- and slow-pitch softball. She is a member of NHS and Student Council. She was the team’s most valuable player in basketball and is on the Big 8 All Conference first team. She is also the recipient of two All-Tournament team awards. She is the daughter of Lisa and Shane Graddy.

Howse represents band. She is also in Show Choir and is a member of NHS. She is a three-time recipient of the Best Woodwind in Band and Best Girl in Band Awards. She is also the 2019-20 Fort Sill Apache Princess. She is the daughter of Ashley and James Howse.

Humbolt represents Fellowship of Christian Athletes/Fish Club. She is president of HOSA-Future Health Professionals and treasurer of FFA. She is on the superintendent’s honor roll and is a member of NHS. She is the daughter of Ivan Humbolt and Angela Humbolt.

Lawson represents NHS. 

McAlpine represents vocal. She is also in the band and color guard and is studying graphic design at Mid-America Technology Center where she is on the National Technical Honor Society. She is the daughter of William and Jackie McAlpine.

Perry is the wrestling manager. She participates in track and cross-country. She is the daughter of  Becky Perry.

Robbins represents the gifted and talented program. She plays fast- and slow-pitch softball and is a member of FCA, NHS, Oklahoma Honor Society and Student Council. She is the daughter of RaDonna Robbins and the late Scott Robbins.

Sample represents fast-pitch softball. She also plays basketball and is a member of Student Council and NHS. She is the daughter of Jay and Terri Sample.

Smith represents MATC where she is a criminal justice cadet. She is the daughter of Kristi Smith and Jerry Smith.

Kylee Spencer, 17, represents fall cheer. She is cheer captain and is studying therapeutic health at MATC. She is a member of NHS and Oklahoma and Indian Honor Societies. She has served on the prom committee and participated in vocal, Show Choir, track, cross-country, softball and soccer. She is the daughter of Amber Wells and Eric and Skye Spencer.

Turnpaugh represents Show Choir. She is soprano section leader in the choir and is FFA secretary. She is on the superintendent’s honor roll. She is the daughter of Niki and Jimmie Turnpaugh.

Bear represents Student Council. He plays football, basketball and baseball and participates in powerlifting. He is the son of Shelly Bear and Carl Bear.

Claunch represents FCA/Fish Club. He is Student Council president and FFA vice president. He is a member of Show Choir, FCA, NHS and Oklahoma Honor Society. He is on the superintendent’s honor roll and is a recipient of the State Superintendent Award for Arts Excellence. He is the son of Rocky and Jennifer Claunch.

Clegg represents NHS. He is a leader in FCA/Fish Club and is in the Gifted and Talented Program. He studies pre-engineering at MATC and is a member of NHS. He also participates in powerlifting, football and baseball. He is the son of Jodi King and Brandon King.

Cottrell represents track. He is also involved in Student Council and participates in track. He plays football and basketball. He is the son of Michael Lewis and Debra Cottrell.

Diaz represents Show Choir. He has been a member for four years and has been in band for seven years. He plays baseball and has won multiple medals in band and vocal, including back-to-back superior ratings for vocal solo. Other vocal awards include East Central Oklahoma Choral Directors Association and second round All-State. He is the son of Anna and Robby Diaz.

Findley represents band. He is also in Show Choir and theater. He holds a half-dozen All-State honors – four in choir and two in band. He has been in the Regional Honor Choir and Regional Honor Band three times each. He is a member of NHS and National Indian Honor Society. He is also the 2019 recipient of the State Superintendent Award for Art Excellence. He is the son of Amber and Matt Findley.

Jeffrey represents football. He also plays baseball and participates in powerlifting. He is the son of Chad and Jocelyn Beasley.

Jones represents MATC. 

King represents baseball and also plays basketball. He is the son of Sandra Weaver and Brandon King.

McWaters represents the Gifted and Talented Program.

Meadows represents vocal and has received multiple superior medals at the district and state levels in vocal and band. He plays trombone in the band. He is a member of National Technical Honor Society and is an officer in the Business Professionals of America. He is the son of Willis and Misty Meadows.

Moffat represents FFA and has been a state qualifier in cross-country for four years. He is FFA president and holds a State FFA Proficiency Award in Ag Mechanics. He holds Greenhand and FFA Star Chapter Farmer honors. He also serves as Cleveland County 4-H president and is in the county’s 4-H Hall of Fame. He is the recipient of a State 4-H Ag Project Record Book Scholarship and has been a delegate to Boys State. He has also served as a page in the Oklahoma Legislature. He is the son of Jerry and Susan Moffat.

Penner represents basketball. He also plays football and baseball. He is a member of Student Council. He is the son of Kristina and John Avery and Shanna Steele and Jeremy Penner.

Simcsuk represents the Academic Team. He is also a member of Show Choir and NHS. He participates in theater. He is the son of Amy and Jesse Simcsuk.

Daniel Spencer represents cross-country. He also participates in track, powerlifting, band and the Academic Team. He is in the Gifted and Talented Program and Boy Scouts. He is a member of NHS and Oklahoma Honor Society. He is the son of Jill and Darrell Spencer.

Turner represents wrestling. He also plays football. He is studying H-VAC at MATC where he holds sheet metal certification. He plays horse shoes and finished fourth in the World Horse Shoe Pitching Tournament. He is the son of Josh and Amy Hughes.

Wheat represents powerlifting and holds the state championship at 132 pounds. He also plays football and participates in track. He is the son of Greg and Janell Wheat.

Aspen Brakefield enjoys the outdoors, particularly riding her dirt bike and four-wheeler. She also loves fishing, playing softball and singing. She is the daughter of Libby and Tommy Brakefield.

Cody Beason likes playing tag and baseball, jumping on the trampoline and watching Star Wars movies. He wants to be in the Air Force when he grows up. He is the son of Ritchie and Megan Beason.
