A private family service forEvelyn Gaye (West) Laird, 73, of Pawhuska, Okla., was held Monday, December 14, 2020 at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Services were under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Ms. Laird passed away at her home in Pawhuska, Okla., on December 8, 2020.
Evelyn was born at home in rural Purcell, Okla. Her parents were Ermon and Mattie (Pittman) West. She was the oldest of six children born to Ermon and Mattie and she had her dad’s brown eyes. She attended Wayne Schools and married at 17. She had three children, Mikeal, Melissa and Marty.
She was a very talented seamstress, something she learned from her mother. She also loved to crochet and made many beautiful creations. She was an avid reader and did crossword puzzles with an ink pen.
She was a 45+ year member of the Pawhuska community having worked at C.R. Anthony, Osage Federal Savings and Loan and the Department of Human Services. She was a devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ermon and Mattie West and an infant sibling.
She is survived by her children, Mikeal Murray and his wife ,Tammy, of Guthrie, Okka., Melissa Bible and her husband, Donnie, of Pawhuska, Okla., and Marty Murray of the home in Pawhuska, Okla.; her grandchildren, Stephen Bible and Kaitlyn Bible; her siblings, Marilyn Standridge and Jim West of Purcell, Dawaine West of Oklahoma City and Lyndell West of Wayne.
She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
