Purcell forced a third game in the District tournament here on Saturday after posting a 3-2 victory over Newcastle in the second game Friday.
Nate Willis picked up the victory on the hill for Purcell limiting the Racers to three hits.
After Newcastle scored twice in the first inning, Willis blanked the Racers the remainder of the game.
He got offensive help from Dayton Smith, Cade Smith and Jorge Munoz, who all went 2-3 at the plate with Munoz pocketing an RBI.
The first game Friday was a 4-2 Newcastle victory. Purcell was limited to three hits one each from Creed Smith, Dayton Smith and Zach Idlett.
Saturday’s rubber game was a 9-5 Racer victory.
Newcastle broke open a 3-all game in the top of the fifth with a four spot that sealed the fate of the Dragons.
Dayton and Creed Smith led the offense both going 2-4 at the plate. Creed smacked an RBI double in the game.
Willis, Cade Smith and Munoz all had a hit in the game.
Purcell finished the season 11-17.
