Dee Lawrence “Opie” Burk

Celebration of life services for Dee Lawrence “Opie” Burk, 55, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2021 in the pavilion at the Comanche, Okla., Cemetery and  at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the Family Life Center at the First Baptist Church in Durant, Okla.

Mr. Burk went home to be with Jesus April 10, 2021 in Durant, Okla.

He was born in Duncan, Okla., on August 28, 1965 to Barry Lynn Burk and Joyce Yvonne Burk.  

Opie attended school in Bee, Neb., Military Academy in Salinas, Kan., and graduated from Empire School near Duncan in 1984.  He attended Broadcasting School in Oklahoma City and worked as a DJ at weddings and parties for next several years.  

Playing the drums was his lifetime passion. As a small child he would sit at the rodeos by the band and not move.  He has played the drums in churches, prison, Mike Warnke concerts and cowboy services.  

Opie was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Dee and Dorothy Burk and will be buried beside them in Comanche, Okla.  

He is survived by his son, Dalton Doshier of Bull Shoals, Ark.; his father and stepmother, Barry and Cheryl Burk of Durant, Okla.; his mother and stepfather, Joyce and George Kernek of Purcell; his brother, Blair Burk of Durant; his sister, Bobbie Jo Wells of Davis, Okla.; his  uncle, Roy Burk and wife, Melinda, of Duncan and many friends from church, AA and ministries.

He received his 28th sobriety coin on April 8, 2021.
