Unfortunately Wayne added two more losses to their record with a 12-8 loss to Sasakwa and a 6-4 loss to Konawa on Monday.
“Both games we made critical errors at bad times to let the other team get extra runs on us. We had the lead in both games and we kind of fell apart,” head coach Shane Collins said.
Sasakwa/Konawa
Wayne got on the board first when Jaxon Dill grounded out to score one run. Sasakwa tied it up with one run in the bottom of the first.
The Bulldogs knocked in four runs in the second inning when Duke Moore grounded out, Ben Fisher singled, Sloan Jackson singled and Langstyn McClendon walked to each score one run.
Wayne added three more runs in the top of the fourth.
The Vikings scored three in the second and were down 8-4 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.
They turned the game on its head after scoring eight runs in the fourth inning to take the lead and win the game.
Wayne finished the game with four hits, led by Jackson’s two. Fisher, McClendon, Lane Canfield, Lane Lewis and Brody Kemp each had one hit.
In their second game, Wayne held a 4-3 lead on Konawa through four innings. The Tigers scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to retake the lead. Wayne couldn’t get any runs across and dropped the game with Konawa, 6-4.
Jackson had the Bulldogs lone hit in the loss and Brody Kemp had their only RBI.
Wayne had nine walks in the game and six stolen bases.
Dill was on the mound for all five innings. He allowed six runs on five hits (three earned). He walked five and struck out two.
“Jaxon threw well against Konawa. We had the lead going into the final inning but we had a couple of bad errors and they got on us. They’re a good team, ranked in the top 10 in Class 2A-II,” Collins said.
Last week Wayne was in The Jake, a wood bat tournament, and lost to Ringling 5-4 in their first game.
Brody Kemp and Langstyn McClendon each had one hit. Kemp also had two RBIs.
This loss was similar to Monday’s games as Wayne held a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning. Ringling scored five in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead. Wayne added one run in the top of the fifth, but that wasn’t enough.
Ty Kemp was on the mound for the loss. He struck out four.
With several starters out due to prom, the Bulldogs dropped out of the tournament.
Districts
Wayne’s District assignment was out early this week and they have a bye.
Head coach Shane Collins has added a couple of games to their schedule in lieu of traveling for Districts. Wayne will be in Rush Springs on April 24 and hots Meeker on April 29.
