Funeral services for Bobby Lee Powell, 89, of Purcell were held Saturday, April 16, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Purcell. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mr. Powell passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2022.

He was born August 28, 1932 in Byars, Okla., the older of two children born to Henry James Powell and Gladys Irene (Rambo) Powell. He was raised in Purcell and attended school there, graduating with the Dragon Class of 1950.

Not too long after, Bobby started working for Southwestern States Telephone Company. He married his best friend and life partner, Bobbie Sue Ward on March 23, 1952 in Purcell, and together they raised three children, daughter, Jennifer, and sons, Phillip and Stanley.

Because of his work, Bobby lived in various towns throughout Oklahoma. He owned and operated his own NAPA Parts Store in Prague at one time, before going back to work for GTE. He retired as an outside plant technician after more than 30+ years of service.

Away from work, Bobby enjoyed gardening and watching old westerns. He looked forward to visiting Branson, annual family trout fishing trips, and volunteering with the Baptist Mission Builders. In 2001, he and Bobbie returned back home to Purcell. He was a man of great faith and served at First Baptist Church whenever called upon. He will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Powell and parents, Henry and Gladys Powell.

Bobby is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Leonard (Tommy) of Wynnewood, Okla.; sons, Phillip Powell (Tina) of Eufaula, Okla., and Stanley Powell (Sheila) of Prague; sister, Janette Ketchum of Norman; eight grandchildren, Jami Leonard Rozzell, Brandi Leonard Ingram, Neisha Leonard Wright, Megan Powell Taylor, Ashley Powell Young, Mandy Powell, Cord Powell and Gage Powell; nine great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
