Born Betty Fern Gowens on May 11, 1931, in Rosedale, Oklahoma, she was the third of six children born to Lecil and Roma Gowens. She was raised in Rosedale where she attended school and obtained her diploma.

During high school, she met W.G. Roberson from a neighboring town. The couple enjoyed 45 wonderful years of marriage. Betty cherished her role as a mother to her two children, Andy and Brenda, and was grateful for the opportunity to stay home with them until they began school.

Afterward, Betty pursued her passion for cosmetology by opening Betty’s Beauty Shoppe, where she served her loyal clients for over 50 years. Her dedication and love for her work endeared her to many.

In her free time, Betty enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, sewing, crocheting, and reading. She was also known for her cooking, with famous dishes including beans and cornbread, fried chicken, and roast. A lover of games, she delighted in crossword puzzles, dominoes and card games. Betty was a passionate basketball fan and cherished watching her grandchildren and the OKC Thunder.

Betty was a selfless and caring woman, known for her compassion and understanding. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel special and valued. Family meant the world to her, and she embraced her role as Grandma with pride, relishing every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A woman of great faith, Betty’s love for Jesus guided her life and was evident in her actions. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, W.G. Roberson; her parents, Lecil and Roma Gowens; sister, Nelldean Gowens; and brothers, Bob, Jack, and Dick Gowens.

Betty is survived by her son, Andy Roberson and wife, Shirley, of Norman; daughter, Brenda McGowen and husband, Mickey, of Byars; brother, Terry Gowens and wife, Glenda, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Amy Pedlow and husband, Myles, of Norman and Shannon McGowen and husband, Jason Ratchford, of Wynnewood; great-grandchildren, Kylar Pedlow and Jolee Ratchford; her beloved dog, FeeBee as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.
