Annual 89er’s Day celebration

Three day festival runs Thursday through Saturday

Posted

The three day celebration of 89er’s day begins Thursday evening with the carnival rides.

This year, the only thing offered for pre-sale will be cards you redeem at the ticket counter for a wristband.

The wristband cards, that sell for $25, will be available to purchase at Lexington Gas and Go,  Shans Kwik Corner, Lexington City Hall and Police Department.

They will go on sale today (Thursday) at 5 p.m.

These “wristband cards” will be available at local stores for $25 and can be used from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on the night of your choice. (Thursday, Friday or Saturday)

Wristbands change each day, so they are only good for one night.

The wristbands may not be used on Saturday, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Only tickets purchased direct from the carnival will be available during those times.

That’s the word from City Manager Deana Allen.

In addition to the carnival, the event will feature a car show, food trucks, entertainment including gunfighters and the big parade Saturday at noon.

A limited number of festival T-shirts may be pre-ordered.

The food trucks and vendors will arrive Friday night and be open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The day kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The carnival will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“We have more food vendors than ever plus two entertainment musician acts coming and a local group to be on stage,” Lexington Chamber of Commerce Vice President Mike Harmoning said.

“We keep getting different people,” Harmoning said. “And, we have gunfighters coming.”

He said the car show grows every year and he expects that trend to continue this year.
