Graveside Funeral Services for Ann Gober, 86, of Lexington were held Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the Lexington Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mrs. Gober passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020.

Ann Lee Self was born July 11, 1934 in Commerce, Georgia, one of seven children born to Julian Mack Self and Sarah Ellie (McClain) Self. She was raised in the hills of Georgia near Carlton. Like many in that time, she left school and started working to help her family.

Some years later, Ann had moved to Texas, and by chance one day, while working at the local diner in Commerce, she met a young man named James Edgar Gober. They were the perfect match and were eventually were married in Commerce. They first made their home in Anadarko, and later Oklahoma City before settling in the Lexington community.

Ann worked a few odd jobs here and there, but her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and eventually great-great grandmother.  Together they raised eight children, and so Ann worked tirelessly, cooking and cleaning and managing her family. She was a strong woman and fiercely independent.

Her values were unquestioned and she worked hard to instill these qualities in both her children and grandchildren. Ann loved working in her garden and just being a grandma. She was an excellent cook, and will be forever remembered for her beans, pan bread and taters. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gober; daughter, Debbie Gober; son, James Roger Gober; her parents, Julian and Sarah Self and all of her siblings.

Ann is survived by her sons, Jerry Don Gober and wife, Mickey, of Jacksonville, N.C., David Gober of Purcell, Allen Gober and wife, LeAnn, of Noble and Marvin Gober of Noble; her daughters, Mary Jane Lamirand and husband, Marvin, of Lexington and Ellie Mae White of Poteau; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a host of other family and friends.
