Purcell’s Dragons are hosting the 32nd annual Heart of Oklahoma baseball Tournament starting today (Thursday) and running through Friday.

The championship game is slated for 4 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to the Dragons, this year’s field includes Lexington, Pauls Valley, Bridge Creek, Asher, Bethel, Chickasha JV and Newcastle.

The Dragons open the first round at 5:30 p.m. against Lexington.

A complete bracket can be found in this week’s Purcell Register.

“This will be a competitive tournament,” head coach Cole Sharp said. “There are good teams in it. Every game will be exciting and I’m looking forward to our tournament starting Thursday.”

Purcell rode the pitching arm of Zach Idlett and pounded out 13 hits in a 9-0 shutout victory over Lexington here last Friday.

Idlett scattered four hits and struck out six Bulldogs in the five inning affair.

Hayden Harp had a home run and a triple in the contest and finished with three RBIs.

Both Creed Smith and Carter Goldston went 3-3 at the plate. Smith cracked two doubles and had an RBI. Goldston also was credited with an RBI in the game.

Nate Willis was 2-2 with a double and collected two RBIs. Brodrick Smith had a 2-3 outing at the plate with a double and an RBI. Cade Smith had the other Dragon hit.

“Zach threw pretty well for us and settled in after the first inning and got the win,” Sharp said. “Hitting-wise we hit the ball really well.”

Sharp mentioned the performances at the plate by Creed Smith, Brodrick Smith, Willis and Harp.

Drew Dierking, Carter Moore and Payton Arnold got hits for the Bulldogs.

Riding Brodrick Smith’s arm, the Dragons shutout Seminole at home Monday, 5-0.

Smith scattered five hits and struck out seven Chieftains.

Harp went 2-3 at the plate for the Dragons. Creed Smith had a two run double in 1-3 outing. Dayton Smith was also 1-3. Willis had an RBI in a 1-3 performance.

Idlett doubled in the game and Carter Goldston had an RBI.

Purcell was to travel to Seminole Tuesday.

In Purcell’s 10-0 loss to Heritage Hall last Tuesday, Purcell’s only hit in the game came off the bat of Willis.
